North Stradbroke Island

Where?

North Stradbroke Island

What you'll need

Nothing needed for the day but here are a few suggestions:
4wd vehicles, surfboards, snorkelling gear, stand up paddle boards,(camping gear if staying over night)

Only a 40 min drive from Brisbaneto the ferry. You can either hop on as a passenger for $16 return or vehicle with its passengers for $180 return. It takes about 45 min to get across the bay to the island.

Once on the island its all about beaches and camping, its often easy to get a wave or beach to yourself, there are 4wd tracks running up the main beach and your welcome to take our vehicles on them. Plenty of camping spots on the island if you would like to make a weekend of it or alternative book into the hostel or an airbnb.

At certain times of the year you can often spot whales, dolphins, turtles and a lot more.

Cylinder beach can have amazing uncrowded surf, but its always a beautiful bay.

Want a bit of a giggle? head down the pub and get to know the locals (this could go either way lol).

Its an easy day trip or a fun way to get out of the city with plenty of camp sites available.

There are numerous camping grounds but my two pics would be Main Beach (4wd only) or Cylinders Beach. Cylinders has the advantage of being right in town, almost on the beach and a great bay with point break. Main beach is more secluded and private due to the 4wd remote access. links below
